GAY USA

Directed by Arthur J. Bressan Jr.

Galvanized by the Briggs Initiative and Anita Bryant’s moral-religious crusade, queer activists took to the streets en masse in 1977 to protest legislative efforts to force gays and lesbians back into the closet. Newly restored by Frameline, Outfest, and the UCLA Film and Television Archive, this extraordinary document of queer history combines footage of San Francisco’s Gay Liberation Day and allied marches around the country, demonstrating the political potential of the then-nascent LGBTQ movement.
